Normandy: Camembert, A King in the Royal Line of Great Cheeses

December 8, 2009

We are all supposed to know that cheese is an old “made food” that we humans still eat because the wandering nomads, the ancestors of us all, wandered around Africa, Asia and Europe with their ruminant animals that produced milk, and these smart forebears learned that cheese was a great way to preserve their milk without refrigerators.  Fast forward to today, and we find places where superb cheeses are still made in the old ways, and Normandy, with its splendid, subtle Camembert and other cheeses, is right up there in the pantheon of the great places with great cheeses.
