About Us

Welcome to the Oldways Table!

Oldways is an internationally respected non-profit, with the mission to change the way people eat through practical and positive programs grounded in science, traditions, and delicious foods and drinks. As the creators of the Mediterranean Foods Alliance and the Whole Grains Council, we are known for successfully translating the complex details of nutrition science into the familiar language of food. You may have seen our Mediterranean Diet Pyramid or Whole Grain Stamp at the grocery store or in your favorite health magazine.

At Oldways, we’re a family, which is why every staff member contributes to this blog. That way, you can get to know us and also get to see our different personalities. The Oldways Table is a place for us to come together to talk with others about our favorite things: food, wine, travel, and those who are closest to us. Whether it’s trying a new recipe or jetting off to a new country, we’re always up to something. We hope you join us at the Oldways Table to take part in the fun!

Again, welcome to the Oldways family and please keep in touch:

Good luck with the blog! I’ll drop by now and then to see what’s up.

As healthcare reform efforts heat up in Congress in the near future, I’m sure they’ll ignore the health benefits of the Mediterranean diet. When we prevent cardiovascular disease, dementia, cancer and diabetes with the Mediterranean diet, that’s less money we have to spend on them.

Thanks for helping to spread the word.

    -Steve

Good luck! I’m trying to implement more Mediterranean way of living, but it’s difficult because I’m gluten intolerant and about the only grain I’ve eaten so far that doesn’t leave me seriously achy or bloated is rice.

I hope you post more recipes sans wheat. I’m also mostly dairy intolerant (except for goat/sheeps milk), but that’s neither here nor there since Mediterranean eating isn’t dairy heavy.

Thanks for spearheading such a great cause!

I just logged on to this website for the first time and read Sara’s article about eating in Italy and losing weight . I, too, had the same experience on my 11 days in Italy. I ate and drank everything i wanted at our meals and by the end of the trip I had lost 6 lbs without even trying. And, I felt great, and had more energy that I normally do. I believe in the Mediterranean diet ! In fact, I much prefer the whole European lifestyle to that of the US.
I’m writing to find out how I can get the book “Old Ways Table”. From what I’ve read about it, I assume it is a book that teaches you how to eat and cook in the Mediterranean style. Please e-mail me at vieckm@aol.com with the info.

    Thank You .

    Hi Alison,

I just wanted to say that I think you and all of the other members of Oldways are doing such an awesome thing with the organization. I have been a member for a while now and I have the book, “The Oldways Table”, as well as “The Mediterranean Diet” pyramid poster. The latter proudly hanging on a sidewall in my kitchen. I also wanted to mention that I promote your organization as often as I can through my own interests. I am the organizer for a local gourmet food appreciation group. Have a look here: http://www.meetup.com/foodies-of-fort-collins/ On the home page I have both “The Mediterranean Diet” and the “Oldways Preservation Trust” listed as inspiration for starting the group. Often I wonder if there’s any more I can do to support such a worthwhile cause.

    Cheers!,
